Troubleshooting Strip Chart Recorder Problems

The strip chart recorder in your Parks instrument is very reliable and should provide many years of good service without any problems.  If a problem does occur and you cannot get the strip chart recorder running within a few minutes, please contact Technical Support.

The following troubleshooting chart is provided to help you solve simple problems that might occur with the strip chart recorder.

SYMPTOM
CAUSE
CURE
Recorder does not print.

Door is open.

No paper.

Ensure door is closed.

Ensure recorder has paper.

Recorder moves paper but does not print. Paper is installed backwards. Check the thermal paper; the sensitive side of the paper (the shiny side) must be facing the printhead.
Recorder prints, but sections are missing. Printhead is dirty. Clean the printhead using cotton and alcohol.
Printout appears light or uneven. Wrong paper is being used. Ensure the thermal paper is the white unprinted thermal paper, Parks part # 893-0015-00.

CARE OF THE RECORDER

Your recorder is designed for minimum preventative maintenance, normally requiring only a simple cleaning.  All thermal papers you will be using with a thermal array recorder may deposit a residue on the printing elements or pressure roller that is easily removed with cotton moistened with alcohol.

Access these components by opening the carriage and verify by inspection that cleaning is necessary.  Recorder usage determines cleaning frequency.  If cleaning is required, sparingly use only alcohol (other solvents may damage the printing elements, pressure roller or plastic housing) to moisten the cotton.  Gently remove any residue by passing the moistened cotton over the area requiring cleaning.

Note: Alcohol saturation of the pressure roller assembly may remove lubricants.
